About Me

My background

I'm from East Tennessee, but have had very shallow roots. I've seen twenty-seven countries thanks to travel with the military, and lived as far south as Florida, as far north as Kentucky, East to North Carolina, and west to Texas. I hold a BS in Organizational Management, an MA in Christian Studies, an MA in Christian Leadership (because you can't lead in ministry like you would in the Army), a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Apologetics, and a PhD in Theology and Apologetics, with a cognate in Church History.  All of this to say I have learned you have to meet people where they are in life and ministry and not where you wish they were.

I have taught academically for five different institutions and am currently the head of an apologetics masters program for one. Additionally, it is my belief professors need to get outside the halls of academia and practice their craft in the real world. With this in mind, I do speaking and teaching engagements, both in person and via virtual meetings, with other ministries and organizations. If you're interested in considering having me speak at your event, church, or organization, please click the "Contact Us" button below and submit your information. We will be in touch as quickly as possible.

Who I Am

I am a Christian, husband, and father.

I am an apologist, speaker, and writer.

I became a believer in the risen Jesus on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend in 1990, after a rather "firm" encounter with a very strong pastor who knew how to explain why he believed what he believed. I became a husband in 1995 to the best wife a man could hope for in life. Together we have two children, both now grown.

My passion is apologetics. This term is used across disciplines and belief systems, but in short means a defense of why you believe what you believe. Good apologetics in Christianity first requires good theology, and in order to have good theology one must have a good foundation in the Bible. Add in a dose of history for "flavor" and this becomes an exciting field of study! Whether you are a believer or not, you have joined a story already in progress! True, this moves into "What I Do", but I offer it here to help you get to know me a bit better.

What I Do

What we "do" is not who we "are". On the more personal side, I am the guy who cooks most of our meals. I thrive on learning new things, hence the ongoing educational pursuits. I write, speak, and teach. I have and still serve on boards for other organizations. Downtime is travel or playing pool with my wife and when the time is there and the season is right, I enjoy the solitude of sitting in the forest big game hunting (not for trophy, but for food in the freezer).
